NJ TRANSIT Health Advisory (COVID-19) Vaccination Requirement

ATTENTION EMPLOYEES

 

As a reminder, all State employees – including all NJ TRANSIT employees – are required to be fully vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19 by October 18, 2021, or to undergo regular testing for COVID-19. 

To comply with this mandate, NJ TRANSIT employees must receive their first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine no later than September 8, 2021. Employees receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine must be vaccinated by October 4, 2021.

Information on how to submit proof of vaccination, as well as testing policies and procedures, will be forthcoming.

SMART-TD Disaster Relief Fund activated

SMART-TD Disaster Relief Fund activated in wake of Ida

The SMART Transportation Division is primed to assist members in their time of need when disaster strikes.

Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana and Mississippi on Aug. 29 and tore a path through an area stretching from the Gulf Coast to the New York-New Jersey region, dropping torrential rain and affecting members’ lives with its massive flooding and wind damage.

Our members in the impacted area, both active and retired, face a long recovery and the painful task of rebuilding their homes and carrying on with their lives.

Furthermore, not only are they coping with the aftermath of a storm, they are doing so against the backdrop of the continuing COVID pandemic.

We are asking the SMART-TD family to heed the call and give what you can so that the difficult task of starting over and rebuilding can begin for any TD members who have been affected by Ida.

Any donations will help lessen the struggle and bring real hope and relief to our members who are suffering after this great loss. SMART-TD will administer donations sent to the SMART-TD Disaster Relief Fund.

Fall Shoe Truck Information

To All Rail Employees,

I am happy to announce our Fall 2021 Shoe Truck schedule!

Attached you will find our schedule as well as program information including our current list of boots all of which offered at a discounted price exclusively for NJ Transit Rail employees. In addition to this discounted price, all eligible Rail employees may purchase any boot listed and receive one (1) $60.00 subsidy per calendar year for one regular boot as well as one (1) additional $60.00 subsidy per calendar year for the purchase of one Winter Boot.*

*Please note, employees may make multiple purchases at the discounted prices listed, however employees will not receive additional yearly subsidies beyond the one (1) $60.00 subsidy for a regular boot or shoe as well as one (1) additional $60.00 subsidy for a winter boot.

ATTENTION EMPLOYEES

 

Today,  Governor Murphy announced that all state employees – including all NJ TRANSIT employees – will be required to show proof of vaccination against the virus that causes COVID-19 by October 18, 2021, or to undergo regular testing for COVID-19.

Details of this testing process, as well as the process for submitting to NJ TRANSIT proof of vaccination status, will be communicated at a later date. 

Aligned with this new order, the State has extended the date by which all state employees must return to the workplace full time. This new date will also be Monday, October 18, 2021.

As a result, NJ TRANSIT will extend Phase 2 of its return to the workplace plan – where employees are required to come into the workplace at least two times a week – through Friday, October 15.

Phase 3 of NJ TRANSIT’s return to the workplace plan – where employees are required to come back to the workplace full time, five days a week – will now begin on October 18, 2021.

Again, we will share more information about this new State order as soon as it is available.

NJ TRANSIT Mask Policy Update

ATTENTION EMPLOYEES:

 

Please see the below guidance regarding the masking policy set forth by the CDC in accordance with the state. This change is effective as of Wednesday, August 4. 

All NJ TRANSIT employees will be required to wear, at minimum, cloth or disposable face masks indoors in offices, subject to certain exceptions.  As is currently permitted, all employees may remove their mask when they are eating or drinking, where seated at a workstation and separated from other individuals by a minimum of six feet, and when situated in a room alone.  All individuals must wear masks in internal meetings and in common areas.

Visitors are required to wear masks in offices, except where the visitor is under the age of two, and employees are required to wear masks in meetings with visitors. 

Per CDC guidance: fully vaccinated people who have a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 should be tested 3-5 days after exposure, and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result.

Services for Brother Michael Nelson

Vandermay – Obituaries

 

Michael S. Nelson, age 58 of Montville, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 31, 2021. He has lived in Montville his entire life.
 
Mike was a railroad conductor with NJ Transit Rail since 1987 and was most recently operating from Suffern to Hoboken. He absolutely loved his job and the people he worked with. He had a special relationship with his “NJ Transit Family” and he’ll miss them all very much. Mike had a collection of bicycles that he kept stashed at various NJ Transit stations and whenever he had a prolonged break, he would take one of his bikes for a ride to make good use of his time.
 
Mike grew up in Montville and graduated from Morris Catholic High School with the class of 1981. He purchased his childhood home from his parents and has lived at the same address for nearly his entire life. He enjoyed playing with electronics, including his Tesla coil, reading mystery novels, and watching British TV shows. He was a huge fan of Monty Python and also enjoyed the Three Stooges and Abbott & Costello. Interestingly enough, he was also a fan of the daytime soap opera “Guiding Light.” Mike had his own, unique sense of humor that earned him the name “Uncle Scary” from his nieces and nephews. He was particularly good at tormenting kids with his scary stories and practical jokes, which the kids all loved him for. He was always ready to have fun and to share a laugh.
 
Mike was an animal lover in the truest sense. Throughout the years, he had many cats, his beloved dog Leon, and currently his two kitties, which were like children to him so he called them his “kid-ties:” Mea-Felis and Homer-Max. He loved those cats so much and he spoiled them terribly. Mike’s coworkers at NJ Transit were always amazed by Mike’s love for animals. Even when working, he couldn’t pass a dog or cat without stopping to pet them, get all mushy with them, and just fawn over them. And if he had food in his pocket, he would slip them a little treat to enjoy! He was a true animal lover and just couldn’t help himself!
 
In 1989, Mike met Mary Anne Banta through a personal ad. They enjoyed their first date on August 10, 1989 and it was love at first sight. By the third date, they were inseparable and wedding vows were exchanged on October 20, 1990. Mary Anne describes their thirty years together as amazing, unconventional, wild, crazy, and fun. They never left the ‘honeymoon’ stage and enjoyed doing everything together. Mary Anne particularly enjoyed riding in the locomotive with Mike whenever he had to work on their anniversary, birthday, or holiday. Mike was always very protective of Mary Anne, devoted to her, supportive of all her needs, and he loved her very much. She will miss him dearly and has a heart full of fond memories to cherish.
 
Mike is survived by his dear wife Mary Anne Banta-Nelson of Montville, his mother-in-law; Alma Banta of Kinnelon, his extended in-laws; Liz, Alma, Terri, Clare, and Steve, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his NJ Transit Rail family. He was predeceased by his mother, Edith in 2007, and by his father, David, in 2010.
 
Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, for a celebration of Mike’s life on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at St. Mary’s RC Church, 17 Pompton Ave., Pompton Lakes, NJ.
 
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy in Mike’s name are asked to consider a donation to your local animal shelter.

TD Bank Direct deposit issues

Good morning all,

Looks like TD bank is having issues, so Rail is affected today.

If you receive a call from an employee with TD account, especially Rail, advise them –

  1. TD seems to be experiencing issues.
  2. Today is pay date (all day), so they can call back tomorrow if they still have an issue, otherwise they will receive their DD today.
