Good evening brothers and sister,
By now everyone should be aware of the issues regarding the election for this position this past Saturday. I will briefly discuss the issue.
The post office in Newark, the (Ferry St branch) returned every ballot back to members eligible to vote as undeliverable. The Tellers were advised by the supervisor of this branch that they returned all the ballots back to the office of Smart-TD Local 60 located on 8 Wilson Ave 3rd fl Newark on Friday 11/18/22. As of today, we haven’t received any ballots at our address. As stated above ballots were returned to members in error by this post office. Prior to Saturday, I received one phone with a ballot stating undeliverable, but today, I received several messages from our members advising me they received their ballot back as undeliverable. The Post Office stated the P.O. Box had to be in the business name, which is not accurate. The Secretary of our local has been purchasing the P.O. Box in his name for 20 years without issue. Neither myself, nor the Local Secretary received any calls from the Post Office advising us they did as much, and they also didn’t have a issue when the Local Secretary purchased the P.O. Box.
With that being said, we have to run the election from scratch. I will discuss this with the Local Secretary and we will schedule dates for ballot prep, as well as the date of the Special Meeting when the election will be conducted. We will not use that branch, and I will instruct the Local Secretary to go directly to the Main Post Office located downtown Newark and discuss the error and the process going forward with the Post Master. We will also attempt to receive some type of remedy for the error on their behalf.

Flexible Spending Account OE 2023 – Rail Agreement Employees

Dear Rail Agreement Employee:
NJ Transit’s Flexible Spending Account (FSA) 2023 Open Enrollment is ongoing through November 30th. The FSA program allows you to set aside pre-tax earnings to pay for eligible health care or dependent care expenses. Pre-tax funds are deducted from each paycheck and automatically deposited into an FSA account. You decide how much to contribute tax-free (subject to regulatory requirements) for the year.
You may elect to participate in the Medical FSA, a Dependent Care FSA, or both.
For existing 2022 FSA participants, if you choose to continue to participate, you are required to re-enroll for the 2023 calendar year.
The Medical FSA has a carryover feature that allows you to carry over a balance from one calendar year to the next to reduce your risk of losing any unspent funds under the IRS “use or lose it” rule. Per IRS guidelines for calendar year 2023, you may carry over up to $570 of your calendar year 2022 balance (as of 12/31/2022).
Dependent Care FSA allows you to pay for daycare expenses for your dependent children under age 13 or for older dependents not capable of self-care needed to allow you to work. The amount you choose to contribute must accumulate in your account before you can request reimbursement.
For reference, the 2023 Medical FSA and 2023 Dependent Care IRS FSA Limits are as follows:
As a Rail Agreement employee, if you elect to waive medical coverage in the NJ TRANSIT medical plan, you are eligible to receive a $500 contribution toward your Medical FSA account for the calendar year. In order to receive this benefit, you will need to complete the FSA Enrollment Form indicating your election to waive medical coverage for 2023. Waiver monies cannot be applied towards a Dependent Care FSA account.
The deadline to submit your FSA Enrollment Form to the NJ TRANSIT Benefits Department is November 30, 2022. Please email or fax completed forms to:

Good afternoon,
I’m sure everyone is well aware that all assignments with weekends off were advertised because of a Holiday Change, even though nothing changed on the assignments. This issue was brought to the attention of Carrier and this was definitely an error on their part. We will be meeting with the Carrier again Monday morning to address and somehow rectify, if possible. As of now I suggest everyone bid their assignment in, until instructed otherwise.
