Also please consider signing a PAC contribution form (they are available from most of your union representatives)

While we can be proud that SMART TD members vote in higher numbers than the general public we also know that in the recent elections in New Jersey the voter turnout was the lowest on record. We need to impress on our members that their jobs, wages, benefits and pensions depend on having friends in elected office at the local, state and federal level. Please share this with our members. Voter registration forms can be found online at the New Jersey Department of State’s website, www.state.nj.us/state . Then go to the Division of Elections for the forms and general information on elections in New Jersey. You cannot register online but you can print out the form and then mail it back. Also for those members who may be working on Election Day you can register to Vote By Mail (VBM). This program replaces the old absentee ballot and the application for that is also available online at the same website. Today unions and their members in the public and private sector are under attack as never before. A update provided by brother Johnson this is a interpretation from the International on some questions on the updated SMART-TD constitution

We have our regular scheduled monthly meeting on Sunday 10:00am at the VFW in Linden. A couple updates;

• We will NOT be voting on the temporary supplemental list change. As per the international we need a vote by ballot from all members even for a “temporary agreement” and the cost associated with that is not worth the three month trial period proposed
• Our GC has a family commitment for the holiday weekend and regrettably is unable to attend
• “PEB 249” in the coalitions opinion went very well for us, and we are waiting for their non-binding recommendation, we should have that by mid January

Our GC is asking that all recent or unresolved payroll issues be forwarded to him at sburkert@utulocal60.com

The information is needed so he can possibly get additional assistance for resolving payroll issues, he said he needs a paper trail so please give all the details. This would include issues you have handled yourself and had resolved. Thanks

SMART-TD Local 60 has lost one of our own, Bobby Johnson passed away on Tuesday December 1,2015 “BJ” was one of a kind with an extraordinary laugh and a smile that always brought life to a room. He will be missed by all of his NJ Transit colleagues. We ask that you keep Bobby’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
