Your Retirement Security: First Episode of the Talking-SMART podcast now available

The inaugural episode of the Talking SMART podcast looks at a a new proposal from Senate Republicans that poses a serious threat to retirement security.

Presented in a white paper by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), this plan would impose a new 10 percent tax on retirees and punish healthy plans.

SMART General President Joseph Sellers is our guest as he discusses this dangerous proposal, as well as the overall state of retirement security in America. Be sure to listen to our Open Mic broadcast following this episode to listen to the General President answer members’ questions. Call 844-984-0947 to submit a question you would like the General President to answer.

Visit Talking-SMART.org to listen to the broadcast.

Talking SMART is the podcast of the the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers, a diverse union of more than 200,000 members. Each month, we bring you news, guests and discussions of interest to working families across the United States and Canada.

Episodes will soon be available to listen to via Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher, Tune In and wherever else you can find podcasts.

Just received a call the records building adjacent to track one in Hoboken is collapsing, so lot # one in Hoboken will be closed UFN, spots will be available in the paid lot, SP+ Parking, across the street.

When you park there they will give you a ticket to fill out with your name and employee number, they will then give you the second ticket to retrieve your car. They will still be working on a plan on Monday so this may change.

Mileage Penalties

After working with the carrier to expedite and try for improvements with payments for mileage, we are once again over four months behind.

We are asking members who have submitted mileage and have not been paid or denied after sixty (60) days please submit the below penalty claim card for each sheet and list dates on sheet. Please follow directions for submitting penalty claims located on this site under Members tools-Claims

So for example if you have seven dates listed on one sheet submit one time-card for each sheet, and list each date in details box. Submit one time card for each day that are over sixty days, continue to submit until the claim is paid.

Unfortunately this our last resort and the goal is to improve the system, and we have no other options.

Any questions please reach out to your LCA officers

Dependent Verification Update

Some additional information for the health benefit verification project, GC Johnson has been communicating with the Executive VP/GM and labor relations, as discussed in the letter sent to Jerome, Alight is an independent contractor who will destroy all documents collected at the conclusion of the project. Alight is a public, established company and an on-line search can give you independent information on them.

The goal is to confirm your dependents particularly that you and your spouse/domestic partner are still together. Any and all personal information should be redacted this includes financial, personal, and account numbers. What they need in addition to birth, adoption, marriage certificates is something recent that establishes you and your spouse/domestic partner are living together. If you do not send the first page of a 1040 form you will need to send two other documents.

I’ve attached what I personally sent (I changed the name and address here because it’s a public site) via the online submission, it was approved in three days. As you can see all important information is removed. If you are having issues finding similar documents call them 800-725-5810 they can help resolve issues.

Equipment Moves to SSYD

At a recent safety committee meeting an issue came up where crews who are taking over equipment in NY Penn Station and going east to Sunnyside Yard, have went without paperwork required for that particular train.

As a reminder we want members to conduct a face to face Safety Job Briefing with the crew who brings equipment to NYP, and if they are unavailable check with Amtrak in the TOC for anything affecting your move.

Please contact the Newark Division Safety Committee members with any questions or suggestions
