Retirement Checklist

NJ Transit Rail — Retirement Checklist

As a NJ Transit Rail employee, retiring involves multiple agencies, deadlines, and decisions. This checklist walks you through what to do and when — from 12 months out through your last day. Work through each phase with your GCA officer and, where noted, with a financial advisor or attorney familiar with railroad retirement.

⚠️ For reference only. This checklist is provided as a general guide to help members plan for retirement. It may not be complete, current, or applicable to your individual circumstances. Requirements, deadlines, and benefit rules change over time. Always verify information directly with the RRB, NJT HR, and your GCA officer before taking action or making any irrevocable decisions.
